But When He Knocks

If I had been a shepherd
In far-off Bethlehem,
Would I have seen that glorious light,
Brighter than diadem?

If I had been the keeper
Of Bethlehem's crowded inn,
Woudl I have known my manger housed
The One Who saves from sin?

Or had I been a wise man,
Across the desert far,
Would I have brought my richest gifts
And followed that bright star?

No sheep have I, no manger bed,
No costly gift, nor rare,
But when He knocks at my heart's door,
I'll bid Him welcome there.

Wishing each and every one of you a happy, thoughtful, wonderful Christmas.
Love,
Elizabeth
